Hackers & Designers

Hackers & Designers is a collective that attempts to break down the barriers between the two fields by enforcing a common vocabulary through education, hacks and collaboration. The international collective consists of researchers, software developers, artists and designers, who address topics such as information politics, the darknet and blockchain in workhops, lectures and public events. The workshop will be given by co-founder Anja Groten and member Karl Moubarak.

Anja Groten is a designer, researcher and community organiser, and since September 2019 the course director of the design department. Investigating collaborative practice, her work revolves around the cross-section of digital and physical media, design and art education and her involvement in different interdisciplinary collectives. Groten currently holds a position as practice-led PhD researcher at the consortium ‘Bridging Art, Design and Technology through Critical Making’ and PhD Arts. Anja’s classes explore the notion of “collaboration” in theory and practice.

Karl Moubarak studied in Lebanon and at the Design Academy in Eindhoven. Hij is involved in Queering the Collection at Van Abbe Museum.
